From 1920 to 1922, Kansas utilized a “realistic” depiction of a jayhawk (which aren’t real birds, but a nickname intertwined in Kansas' state history) perched atop this “KU” logo. As time passed, different versions of the “KU” would emerge, including in Kansas’ famous Circus Font, as well as the modern, more streamlined version.
